About E-Commerce B2B
E-Commerce B2B is an ERP-driven e-commerce solution designed for and within Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
The cornestone concept of E-Commerce B2B is that once your business is using Dynamics NAV, you do not need another standalone software for e-commerce and the never-good-enough integration layer in between.
E-Commerce B2B provides a bundle of organic extensions to Dynamics NAV for e-commerce functionality (an Add-on), and the web-based Storefront - a customer facing facade for your Dynamics NAV data.
With E-Commerce B2B, you retain the “single master” ERP database approach for all of your product, customer, inventory, and sales data, and the Storefront is a customer interface for that data, able to present your products well, and take orders efficiently. By concept, the Storefront does not have its own “/admin” or backend interface, the backend is Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
E-Commerce B2B is a Certified for Microsoft Dynamics (CfMD) ISV solution, CfMD being the highest accreditation from Microsoft provided to partner solutions extending Microsoft Dynamics.
Depending on your requirements, you can use E-Commerce B2B in its standard form, or use it as a solid starting point for your custom integrated e-commerce solution driven by Dynamics NAV.
Business Fit
While not neglecting the sales-increasing part of doing e-commerce, E-Commerce B2B will serve you best if you are after a productivity tool to streamline your order management, reduce errors/returns, and drive down the associated costs. With the rich functionality for B2B scenarios, it is best suited for wholesale, distribution and manufacturing companies, and particularly attractive to small-medium businesses with the requirement for instant time-to-market, quick ROI, and maintenance effort kept to the minimum.
The standard Storefront is designed as a swift and friction-less tool for frequent B2B transactions. Your B2B customer experience is personalized with contract pricing from Dynamics NAV, order follow-ups, Excel imports, repeat orders and other convenience features.
You can also publish your catalog for the general public and enable B2C/retail purchases being made, yet implementing a public web shop in its commonly perceived form (e.g. Magento-style), will require a custom design on your behalf. This is typically done for mixed B2B/B2C scenarios.
You, as the merchant, are provided with e-commerce management solely within Dynamics NAV. Your online catalog is made up of your Items, your Customers or Contacts are authorized for online purchases etc. You will accordingly make the most out of E-Commerce B2B if you are committed to using Dynamics NAV to the maximum extent possible - both by maintaining quality data, and maximizing the business processes that are performed in Dynamics NAV, as opposed to relying on other systems for e.g. PIM, warehousing, or procurement.
In the ideal scenario, Microsoft Dynamics NAV is your core system for inventory and sales management today, and you are willing to efficiently shift your sales and order taking process towards customer self-service with an e-commerce interface.
Sizing-wise, the typical online catalog served by E-Commerce B2B is 10-20K products, currently going as high as 600K products. Given the nature of B2B trade, the solution is heavily optimized for speed with large catalogs and high number of daily transactions.
Components of E-Commerce B2B
E-Commerce B2B is provided as a bundle of two separately installed applications
- The Storefront web application
- Dynamics NAV Add-on module installed within your Dynamics NAV database
E-Commerce Storefront
The Storefront is your e-commerce frontend used by your customers. It is accessed via the web browser (https://your-ecommerce.com), and is installed remotely from NAV. It is typically cloud-hosted, with infrastructure managed by Select Solutions.
The Storefront will:
- Display your Items online, make them available for ordering using the typical Shopping Cart / Checkout paradigm.
- Provide highly personalized experience for authorized B2B customers (contract pricing, ordering history, financials from NAV)
Please visit our Demo Site and review the detailed features for more information.
While the standard solution includes a complete feature set for efficient B2B trading, the Storefront is highly customizable if required. The site design can be changed even that much (yes, it's customized E-Commerce B2B), and based on your business requirements we can also customize the fields, logic, flows, or add features as necessary.
Add-on Module for Dynamics NAV
The Dynamics NAV Add-on Module provides:
- E-Commerce functionality in NAV - e-commerce catalog structure, e-order processing, customer authorization etc.
- E-Commerce related extensions for standard NAV Items, Customers, Orders etc.
- Integration mechanisms necessary to provide real-time e-commerce data for the web application.
Please review the detailed features for more information.
You must add E-Commerce B2B Add-on to your Dynamics NAV license and install the Add-on to your Dynamics NAV database during implementation. This can be done by your Dynamics NAV partner, or Select Solutions.
Just like NAV in general, the Add-on module is open-source for Dynamics partners, so you are not limited with the standard functionality, and can further customize the solution to e.g. introduce various process automations.
